2017 IFMA-LI Spring Scholarship Awards

2017 IFMA-LI Spring Scholarship Awards(Farmingdale, NY - April 6, 2017) IFMA Long Island Chapter congratulates Farmingdale State College’s Spring 2017 Farmingdale Foundation Scholarship awardees Daniel Parks, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Magbert Rafuna, Mechanical Engineering Technology. Daniel and Magbert were each presented $500 scholarships funded by generous donations from the chapter’s members. 

IFMA Long Island Chapter established the two scholarships in 2016 for students studying in the college’s Construction Management and Facility Management programs. The scholarship was implemented each semester to foster interest in facility management and to help students engage with the chapter’s members. Student’s will also receive a complimentary membership to IFMA Long Island Chapter.  

The chapter thanks board member Jennifer Hermann of Altice USA for her tireless efforts to administer the scholarship each semester.

April 2017 Chapter Meeting - Memory Switch

Matthew Goerke, regarded as one of America’s leading experts in the field of Memory Development visited IFMA to help members unlock the mysteries of memory retention.  His workshop helped members discover new advances in memory technology as well as help them gain insight into how these methods are in direct alignment with helping people achieve both business and personal goals.

April also saw the inauguration of our new monthly segment called "The Facility Therapist", an open discussion of topics that facility managers face every day. This month, members discussed thermal comfort and how FM's deal with an employee who may complain they are too hot while another is too cold....and they sit next to one another.

March 2017 Chapter Meeting - WiFi Gridlock in Workplace

Our March 2017 meeting hosted Justin Sison of CallisonRTKL exploring common issues with wireless connectivity such as connecting to your guest network in the workplace and how to solve them. Attendees learned about the benefits and pitfalls of WiFi and DAS (distributed antenna systems), the proper planning for cellular coverage and issues surrounding rogue antennas set up by employees that contribute to the WiFi logjam.
